A hauntingly hearty bake from beyond the grave, dead man's pie is a take on a chilli con carne topped with a pastry crust, this spicy, rich filling will awaken any spirit with its mesmerising smell and unctuous taste.
Method
• Heat your Bertha Oven to 180°C (moderate heat zone).
• In a cast-iron pan, cook the steak until browned. Add onion, garlic, and pepper — sauté until soft.
• Stir in stock, tomato purée, spices, and chopped tomatoes. Simmer for 40 minutes. Add beans and parsley then cook for 10 more.
• Spoon the chilli into a pie dish.
• Cut out a skeleton shape from the pastry and place it on top. Brush with egg wash.
• Bake in the Bertha Oven until golden and bubbling — about 25–30 minutes.
